Adobe SiteCatalyst quick tip #1: Save full referrer and page url with Processing rules

I have had many cases where I can’t get enough exact data (from SiteCatalyst) e.g. where some of our conversions have come. I can look sources -> referrers but still I have had some cases where parameters are missing at least in the situations where I want to correlate some data open and look for answers what has our real referrer been for conversions etc. Sorry, hard to explain, but believe me I have had problems. =)  It would help a lot if I could see the full referrer url with all the possible parameters and possibility to correlate that however I want.

Same kind of problems to analyze the data I have also have with some online campaigns. I mean I have had situations where we are not sure that has the advertising agency really done correct parameters to ad campaigns and many other similar situations. It would help a lot if I could see the full page url with all the possible parameters and possibility to correlate that however I want.

The solution: Processing rules and eVars aka conversion variables

If you are admin and have passed the right test you can then use SiteCatalyst’s “add-on tool” called processing rules. You can read more from here http://helpx.adobe.com/analytics/kb/processing-rules-authorization.html

With processing rules I can save the information that I need directly to eVars aka conversion variables. Enable two conversion variables and name those in a appropriate way. I have used names like these:
eVars for Processing Rules

Note! Remember to put “original value” to “full referrer” eVar.

And here’s how to do the rules:

Save full referrer to eVar

Save full page url to eVar

And you are done, enjoy analyzing with better (correlation) data.

Processing rules for eVars

Note: You could also save these to props too and get even more possibilities to analyze (whatever you want).
